The hand which is broken away from the body shows and represents struggle and anxiety. The hand shows a sense of anger with the way the fist are quenched you would see this if some one was going to punch another person, so we can see that the person who’s hands being used was either angry with life or angry at someone they knew. Funny enough next to it is an opened hand which is the opposite of it. Looking at it reminds you of someone who’s been hurt so when you link both hands together we see someone who’s in pain and struggle due to the fact that they’ve been hurt by something out of reach and that’s why we only see their hands. Because without a body they are helpless and this adds on to the effect, but peculiarly we see laces as well in the picture, this could signify the hand waiting for someone to untie them and relieve them of their struggle. We see the hand being dirty as if they’ve been going through hard labour or work The hand being open shows two different sides to this photograph one being vulnerable and the other being in control. The fact that we just see hands must mean the person who made this poster wanted to convey a sense of power so important it could be the main image of a poster for an international selling movie.
The black background allows for the shadow to make an impact which makes it a bit creepy but most importantly recognisable it fits in with the movie as well being a horror movie it was most suitable to have a black background and they used that to their advantage with the shadow however it was quite complicated when thinking they managed to get a shadow on a black background which makes it more interesting. I think the fact that the hands in the photograph are supposed to be white made it easier to create a shadow which would be visible.
There’s a little speech at the top saying “ trust in him” this just doesn’t make sense in a horror movie so it causes suspension within fans to think who can anyone trust in a movie were your encouraged to turn on a friend or a fellow victim. I think it was to scare audience I feel it was left there to make people wonder what this movie was really going to have in it, perhaps if there was a new concept a new main killer or may be something that’ll turn the story on it head. For a small phrase to be left at the top you could see it wasn’t left there for no reason. It would be something people will think about whilst watching the movie.
The writing at the bottom is not very visible because of the theme of the poster but then the date is very visible as this is a key aspect that fans will need and want to see. As we see the writing at the bottom come in different sizes this could just to make the poster look a little bit more interesting and give it a messy affect.
