Research into Dreams
Dreams are involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep, they are a series of ideas, images, emotions and sensations.
There are different types of dream, two being:
- Daydreaming - This is classified as a consciousness between wakefulness and sleep
- Nightmare - This is a disturbing dream that causes you to feel anxious and frightened when you wake up.
What gave us the "dream" Concept:
As to understand more about dreams Inception seemed like a good film to look at as it broadens our research into dreams. It may not be a horror film but as a group we felt it was worth cooperating some things from this film into our original ideas for our horror teaser trailer concepts.
We decided to mainly look at this film because we were thinking about the type of captions we could use for teaser trailer and thought it would be a good idea to get ideas from Inception which is a film which is merely based on dreams.
From watching the film I gathered a few ideas that we could use to help come up with a conclusion about the reason why our victim will be dreaming. Also to help figure out how we can put it across to our audience that she is dreaming when she is being attacked by the antagonist.
Inception

These include:
- 'Dreams feel real when we are in them'
- 'It's only when we wake up that we realise something was actually strange'
- 'We create the world of a dream'
- 'You bring a subject into that dream and they fill it with their secrets'
- 'Your mind is the scene of a crime'
- 'You taught me to navigate people's minds'
- 'This dream will change everything'
From these we managed to make our own statements:
- You thought you were safe in your dream? Think again
- Can they find a way home?
- Can you get lost in you dream?
- Will you find your way home or will your mind be a crime scene....
By looking at these and thinking carefully about our original ideas, we have decided to come up with a clear narrative to help us when producing our teaser trailer.
To develop our ideas further we thought it would be also a good idea to look into a horror film with a dream concept.
A nightmare on elm street is a really good film for our group to look at as it is a horror film that also has the dream concept. By looking at this film, we can combine some of the ideas from Inception and this one about dreams to come up with more than enough information about dreams to help us come up with our final ideas for our horror teaser trailer.
We mainly looked at this film so we can see how the antagonist goes about killing it's victims in it's dreams. By watching the film we also hoped to get statements or just ideas that we can hopefully use as captions or that can help us come up with further planning of our final concept.
These include:
- 'Don't fall asleep'
- 'Never sleep again'
- 'Something is coming to get them' - they don't know
- 'Can you tell what's real any more'
- Welcome to your new nightmare'
